Our Standing Group focuses on studying the EU, its organization, decision-making process, policies, evolution, and interactions with other political actors. We coordinate the SISP Conference section on the “Politics and policies of the European Union” and welcome diverse methodological approaches to analyze European political processes. Our aim is to view the EU as a supranational political system, employing methods similar to those used for studying national and sub-national political systems. While we prioritize studying the Union’s institutions and their evolution, we also emphasize EU policies, their adoption process, and their impact on member states’ political systems. Additionally, we investigate the Union’s democratic deficit and how European electorates’ preferences are represented in EU institutions and translated into political decisions.
